Spiros H. Anastasiadis is a Professor of Polymer Science & Engineering at the Department of Chemistry of the Univ. of Crete and the former Director of the Institute of Electronic Structure & Laser (IESL) of the Foundation for Research & Technology – Hellas (FORTH). He received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Princeton Univ. in 1988 and has been a Visiting Scientist at the IBM Almaden Research Center in 1988-1989. His research interests are in the areas of polymer science where he has published 148 papers in refereed international journals and has edited one book and has translated two textbooks to Greek. He was awarded the John H. Dillon Medal of the American Physical Society (APS) in 1998 and was elected Fellow of APS in 2000. He has been an Editor of the Journal of Polymer Science: Part B: Polymer Physics (5/2006-7/2010) and served as a Consulting Editor of the AIChE Journal (8/2012-12/2016). He was elected Director of FORTH-IESL in 2013 and was re-elected in 11/2018; his term ended in 02/2023. He served as the elected President of the European Polymer Federation for the years 2018 and 2019 and as the President of the Hellenic Polymer Society (12/2012-11/2023). He serves as the National Representative in the Horizon Europe Programme Committee Configuration on Research Infrastructures (RI’s) and as the National Representative of ESFRI, whereas he has been the National Representative and a Member of the Executive Group of the Materials, Physics & Nanosciences Domain Committee of the European Cooperation in Science & Technology (COST) and the National Delegate in the Horizon 2020 Programme Committee Configuration on RI’s. He is a Member of the Supreme Council of the Hellenic Authority of Higher Education (HAHE) and a Member of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit of the Univ. of Crete whereas he has served as a Member of the Evaluation and Accreditation Council of HAHE (and as the Vice Chair of the Committee on Research Integrity and Ethics of the Univ. of Crete.
