On 11 July, the Dutch government asked the European Commission for the creation of the European Holocaust Research Infrastructure (EHRI) as an established entity. This demand contains the planning process of the headquarters in the Netherlands and the legal framework for the new entity.

Moving from a project-based activity to a permanent service, EHRI will develop into a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) with support from organizations worldwide. First countries becoming members: The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Israel, Croatia, Austria, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, The Czech Republic, and the UK.

The central office will be established at the NIOD Institute in Amsterdam, with a national node in each member country to coordinate activities with local institutions dealing with the Holocaust.

It is expected that the approval of the European Commission will come in the next months, and the official launch will take place in January 2025, on the 80th anniversary of Auschwitz's liberation.

EHRI will continue its ongoing activities, intensifying efforts to support Holocaust research and maintain resources like the EHRI Portal, which provides access to Holocaust archival material.
